I have been learning in the past few weeks that what I thought research was is very different when it comes to a PhD. The reading that I did for fun, which was for personal development and background knowledge, needs to be really different for knowledge that one needs to acquire to become an expert in ones field, which is the purpose of becoming a PhD student. So PhD research reading is very different and needs to be done with a computer next to me these days so that I can record notes and jot down quotes that I need to meticulously need to reference otherwise I will get lost though the journey of PhD research.
