Description

Try a Street Photography Walk with Michael Wayne Plant

Join me on the streets of London for a 1 to 1 photography workshop.

You will learn techniques of street photography, we will discuss street photography processes. I am an experienced photography lecturer, having been responsible for all photography courses, at Idea Store Learning in Tower Hamlets for 9 years. I have ran numerous workshops and I like the idea of One to One conversations, as they are far more personal and directed to your development as a photographer.

I like walking the city and I like having people along with me when I do, as it concentrates the mind on the process of making London street photography images in the City.

Why may you ask, would I be interested in doing this? It is because I like sharing my knowledge of photography and of street photography in particular.

The idea stems from my own experience of learning photography and my experience of photography education and street photography workshops. You can go anywhere and learn the theory, but for many of us it is the practical aspect that is hard to learn. I have seen it often in groups when the loud demanding students get all the attention because they put themselves forward to get it. By doing it one on one you will have most of my attention, the other part of my attention will be on the street observing things so you I can point out moments that we can make images of. The great thing with the idea of street photography walks is that I can watch you making images and see what you are doing tight and help you with things you are struggling with. Their is no wrong way to approach street photography but their are conventions and I will help you learn these as you can also watch me making images, to see how I approach making images on the streets of London as a Street Photographer. I once went on a workshop with a famous photography from a historically significant agency, I had even paid to go to America to attend the workshop, I finally cracked on day two in the last two hours and forced the photographer to show me/us how he worked, I learnt more in those 15 minutes than the rest of the workshop. This is why I am attracted to the idea of offering these 1 to 1 street photography walks. They are a practical way of learning how to work on the streets to make images.

How it works.

We will meet at a cafe/pub and discuss your process. I will ask questions to establish your photographic skills and knowledge and work out how to get you up to speed with your camera and out making images in public spaces within an hour. At the end of the walk we will have another cafe and coffee/tea/beer (okay some sort of beverage) and discuss you experience and I will suggest some things to research and if we have time critique your images.

Price.

The price is £234.00 for approximately 3 hours. Sometimes we can run over a little (never under), as the light might be nice and people on the streets might be giving us what we need, to make great street photography images.

So you want to come along for a few hours of street photographing, what next?

Times,

Now this is where it gets interesting. I am flexible, as I am a professional freelance photographer and like all freelancers, I do not have regular hours or days of work, I have patterns that I manage, so the time is going to be something that we arrange mutually. It can be daytime or if you want help with night street photography it could be early evening.

What about the weather, you might ask.

Now that is something we can’t control, especially here in London, while I would suggest that we try for sunny days, I will look at the weather forecast but as we know the English weather has its own agenda, so be prepared and we will work with it as that is when you learn about your process the most when it is hardest. If the weather is truly nasty we will be able to show you the most extreme settings that you will not normally have to use, that will let you still make images, however you might get a little wet, Dramatic images are made in bad weather.

What happens after you book a Street Photography Walk with Michael Wayne Plant,

Once you have booked a Street Photography Walk, Michael will contact you via email to arrange a time that is suitable for you for the 1 to 1 Street Photography Walk/Workshop.
