Artist Residency in Baku, Azerbaijan, YARAT

What would you do if you could do this?

I think it would be fun to apply for something like this which is why I am posting this here. I might just get around to applying myself.

Artist Residency in Baku, Azerbaijan, YARAT

London, Baku, Azerbaijan Closes Saturday 30 November 2013  Contact: residencies@pelhamcommunications.com

Description

We invite you to participate in our international artist residency program in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital city.

The residency would be 1-2 weeks during 2014 and we ask participants to create a series of workshops, lectures or participatory events for young artists as part of their residency.

We are YARAT, a not-for-profit contemporary art organisation based in Azerbaijan. We put on exhibitions throughout the year, organise education events and support artists through our gallery and participation in international biennials. YARAT are dedicated to nurturing an understanding of contemporary art in Azerbaijan and to creating a platform for Azerbaijani artists, both nationally and internationally.

There is a nascent contemporary art scene in Baku, with artists drawing from a rich cultural history as well as a growing contemporary art ‘infrastructure’ in Central Asia. YARAT’s mission to educate means we are keen to draw upon an ever wider audience of artistic input, and we would love you to contribute to this.

Ideally you will be an established fine art professional, with several years’ experience, teaching both small and large groups of young artists and a significant career as an artist. Russian language is not a prerequisite but very helpful if your workshop has any literary elements.

All expenses are paid (including flights, accommodation, materials, per diem. Further details available on request)

To apply, please send a CV and cover letter (max 1 page) to residencies@pelhamcommunications.com, mentioning:

  • the week(s) you would like to come (mid-summer not recommended, otherwise any time in 2014)
  • the reason you are interested in this residency and giving a masterclass in Azerbaijan
  • detailed proposal(s) of the workshop(s), lectures or participatory events
  • detailed proposal(s) of the art you would like to make while in Azerbaijan, or if this is not possible, the aspects of our country that inspire you
