Ricoh GRIV and Workshop day

AuthorPostedbyMichael Wayne Plant

I am going to try something different on my blog today. I had a great day out in Brisbane. Today I did a photo walk and talk with a demonstration of DxO PhotoLab and the Nik Collection, at the New GR Space in Brisbane, Australia. I had a great time showing images, discussing photography with a passionate group of Brisbane photographers before the storms that came in chased everyone away. I am sitting out side my Dad’s home writing this article while it rain pours down really heavily. It is refreshing after the humidity of the day. I do hope those who attended managed to get home safely. At one stage on my drive home I could not see more than 50 metres in front of the car and that was with the window wipers at full tilt working overtime. One thing I have noticed here when it does rain there is a lot of heavy rain in a very short space of time.

Ricoh GRIV

I have had the privilege of using the Ricoh GRIV for the past two weeks, I did not get to use it enough in this time other than to say I developed a very good impression of the camera. It is a pocketable carry everywhere camera that is highly capable of making great images. I also found myself throwing it around more than I would my Leicas as it is so easy to put it into positions that I would not consider using my Leicas in. I do want to try out the GRIV Monochome camera when it comes out as that would really appeal to me. I would love to see how that would work with my existing image making process. I have not heard anything about a 40mm (equivalent) of the GRIV however I did get to also spend nearly a week with a Ricoh GRIIIx and I really loved that. Now if Ricoh was feeling really generous I would never say no to having both cameras one for each pocket. I did find the exposure compensation dials earlier to use on the new Ricoh GRIV than I did on the GRIIIx so I want to see Ricoh update the x version to the new IV specs.

This lighting from the storm that I am avoiding by sitting under the veranda is rather impressive. It has been quite a few years since I have experienced Queensland tropical storms. If the wind changes direction I might have to move otherwise my ipad and myself might get a little wet. Eventually I had to move as I needed to use my laptop to process the images from today. Now I am having issues getting them to upload into wordpress to display properly for some strange reason.

I was told this morning that my event at the GR Space is the second only GR event that the space has ever had it is that new. I think it is going to be a valuable addition to the photography scene in Brisbane. I hope it lasts a long time and that it does really well.

On top of the rain and the weather, I am now for some reason unable to load images onto my website. So a job for another day. If you want to see the image you will need to jump over to street-photography.net to have a look at this article: On who wants to be a pro photographer
